A Day in the Life
¡Qué tal!
This week is a special week
because we had our first excursion! Yesterday (Friday) we visited Santa María
de Narranco and San Miguel de Lillo. We also celebrated “La Noche de San Juan”
with the rest of the city and it was a magical night. Before I jump into the
details of our excursion, I wanted to give everyone an inside scoop into what a
normal day in Oviedo looks like for our students.
During the mornings, we have classes (Literature, Grammar,
Culture, and Linguistics) and then Lunch with the entire crew. Our students are
divided into 3 groups (Trisqueles, Osos, & Robles) so Lunch is the time
where we see everyone in one room. In the afternoons we have Choir, Dance, and
Acting. We use these times to prepare for our Farewell Show at the end of the
summer. Rebecca instructs the choir, who this year will be singing an Acapella
rendition of multiple Disney songs (in Spanish of course). Pablo and Moisés
instruct our small acting troupe. They will be performing short sketches and
possibly doing improv! I (Odalys) am the dance instructor. The students learned
Merengue, Bachata, and Salsa, and they’re even choreographing! Next week those
who choreographed will be teaching the rest of us the moves which we will debut
in the Farewell Show. Once a week we have sports in the afternoon to get
outside and enjoy the weather and play some fútbol, frisbee, or the occasional
yoga circle.
Here are our students in their every day.

Here we are practicing the Hymn of Asturias! Pardon my voice, I didn't realize the microphone picked it up so well (oops!)
Since we have so many photos of our excursion to Sta. María de Narranco, San Miguel de Lillo, and the night of San Juan, I am making that a separate blogpost which I will upload later today. Stay tuned!
